Rally Australia looking for staff

The organisers of Repco Rally Australia are looking to recruit a number of key personnel in preparation for the event’s return to the WRC in 2009.

Australia last featured as a round of the WRC in 2006 but is scheduled to run in 2009 between 4 and 6 September, having moved from its previous Perth home to a new location on the east coast.

While there remain no specific details for the 2009 event, organisers say an announcement about the new home of the rally and details of the route is imminent.

The chairman of the organising committee, Garry Connelly, confirmed the search was already on for a number of staff including a general manager, operations manager and two assistants and co-ordinators. “With the event moving to the East Coast of Australia for the first time, we will be opening a new office from which to promote and organise the event,” he said.

Connelly is hoping to secure management and staff with previous event experience and believes some of his former WRC team from Perth will apply.

Next week rally organisers will also start to recruit its large team of sporting officials, many of which are expected to have worked previously on the event when it was in Perth. These officials will be joined by rally officials from Australia’s east coast.
