Q: Will Australia host another Round of the World Rally Championship after leaving Western Australia in 2006?
A: Yes, Events New South Wales has confirmed that Rally Australia will be staged in the Northern Rivers region of the State in 2009 and every second year from then on until 2017, with a further five event option after that date.
Q: What is the date of the first event?
A: 3rd – 6th September 2009.
Q: What will happen with Rally Australia during the years it will run?
A: The current World Rally Championship calendar swaps Rally Australia and Rally New Zealand on consecutive years, with both events sponsored by Repco. During the years the event does not run in Australia Events NSW are investigating other motorsport options to ensure continuing interest in the regions the event visits.
Q: Where will the event be based?
A: The event will take in stages in the Tweed and Kyogle Shires in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
Q: Will the service park and Rally HQ be in the same area?
A: A dedicated service park will be assembled at the Walter Peate Recreational Reserve while the Rally HQ will be based out of the sensational resort facilities at Mantra on Salt Beach just 15 minutes south of the Gold Coast Airport and 30 minutes from Byron Bay.
Q: Where will the stages run?
A: The stages are based South-West of the service park at Kingscliff and offer a selection of fast, flowing shire roads which will challenge the best international and local rally drivers in the Kyogle, Murwillumbah and Mullumbimby areas.
Q: Have rallies run in the area previously?
A: Local club level events have utilised the Rally Australia stages in the past with drivers reporting a fierce challenge on roads that reward the brave and determined.
Q: Will there be a spectator access to the stages or a Super Special Stage?
A: A dynamic spectator friendly Super Special Stage experience is planned for the township of Murwillumbah. Full spectator and corporate details will be released shortly, however fans in and around Sydney will be able to get up close and personal with their favourite drivers with a major pre-event function planned for the city in the week prior to the rally.
