Career summary:
Even without the shared forename, the parallels between Ogier and Loeb are striking. Both began their careers in the French Rallye Jeunes contest, then competing in a French single make series. Both secured assistance from the French Motorsport Federation (the FFSA) and went on to win the World Rally Championship’s 1600cc category driving for Citroen.
Ogier won the J-WRC title in 2008, at the end of his debut season in the class. His victory on the first round in Mexico marked him out as somebody to watch, and although he had his fair share of problems as the season progressed, a total of three wins enabled him to wrap up the title on the Tour de Corse.
Part of his reward from Citroen for taking the title win was an entry on Wales Rally GB in a C4 WRC. It was Sebastien’s first event in a WRC car, but he was fast enough to shoot into an early rally lead before gearbox problems dropped him back.
